Affiliate Marketing in 7 Steps Series (6/7)

Creating and Distributing Content - Content Marketing Strategy

a previous post, we have discussed the sheer efficiency of viral marketing once a prospect downloads your viral product from your website.

But here’s the deal… You must first lead people to your website.

Furthermore, even without the benefit of a viral product for download, people who are led to your website can still be exposed to your business message. One of the best ways to lead people to your website is through a strategy called content marketing.

Content Marketing involves the submission of information to as many sources as possible.  But, there is more to it than just that, of course.  Distributing content, and especially, High Quality Content, is not as simple as it used to be. Back in the day of the keyword saturated articles and websites, flooding article directories and press release sites, it didn’t take much to storm into page 1 of google and ranking high for your keywords.

Today, this is not enough, article marketing for example is still a valid form of promotion, but it has evolved into high quality content being shared not only as an article but in the form of audio, video, slide presentations, info-graphics, social media bites, etc. Notice the phrase, “high quality content”, this is a requirement, even if your intent is to share a simple article, it must be unique, well-written, well-researched and relevant to the user.

Look at for example, browse that site and you’ll see what this means, that’s the kind of quality expected today. Google ranking system has had major updates and they have cleaned the house by removing all the keyword saturated and questionable articles and content which were offering no other value to visitors than bombard them with ads and affiliate links.

Also, make sure your copy is top-notch. Words sell. Content Marketing is the new SEO

Remember, content marketing focuses in Top Quality Information and User Experience. So, here are some basic guidelines to consider for your content marketing campaigns:
  • Pick a topic relevant to the subject of your website.  If your website is dedicated to dog grooming, then talk about this but also look out for other terms that might be relevant or related to it or in the same context like: dog bathing tips or dog hair cutting, those are also good topics to discuss and approach in your content.
  • Research on your chosen topic very well.  Try to discover something novel about it that hasn’t been discussed to death in other channels. You can also find popular videos of people using or talking about the products to get ideas on what type of content works best for your topic.
  • Write 3-4 high-end quality articles that will share the information you have pinpointed.  The length should be between 550 to 1,400 words.  Anything less would be too short to successfully convey what you want to convey.
  • Write at least 1 press release and submit it to &, research for others that might be more relevant to your Niche.
PLEASE NOTE: For both writing bullet points above.
If you are not that confident about your writing powers, or if you simply don’t have the time to write an article, you could hire a freelancer to do the job for you at  And remember, price should only be a secondary consideration next to quality.  Writing is one of those services where you get what you pay for most of the time.
  • Include Images for the articles. You can use stock images or take your own photos if you know the market or niche enough. But again, quality is key here. Those images tend to be the first thing the user sees and if you manage to grab his/her attention then you’ll increase your chances to get clicks and expose your content. Images also are the first thing social networks like Facebook look out for and when someone shares your content; the images will be embedded in your post.
  • Create 3-4 videos that explain or show the article’s content or the product’s usage. These can be as simple as a PowerPoint presentation or mode advanced live videos of you conveying your message. Of course, the format varies depending on the topic, returning the dog grooming example, you can film your god getting a haircut and having fun.
  • Get super active in the forums and blog comments of the niche and share your content in social networks, this is key to get some starter traffic and remember to always include your resource box in all your content, because such will contain the link to your website.
  • Look for the authority websites in your niche and start some link and posts exchange with them.
  • Rinse and repeat every week (or every 2-weeks if you are just getting started) but do set a frequency and don't settle for anything less. Take massive action on this plan.
And of course, send all this traffic to your website’s opt-in page, you should start building your own list from day 1. This is key. Please, don’t send this traffic directly to your affiliate link, this will get you banned in most networks. We’ll discuss this point further in future posts.
